Art & Design Program — Grades K–5
Art & Design Program
Our Art & Design program offers customizable, hands-on classes tailored to the developmental level, abilities, and interests of each student group. Rather than following a single fixed curriculum, themes and projects are selected in partnership with each site's coordinator — drawing on their knowledge of the students to shape a program that truly fits the group.
Format: Typically a 10-week program (8–12 sessions total), held once or twice weekly depending on your schedule.
Class Themes (selected together based on group needs and interests):
- Foundations & Color — Color theory, painting, drawing
- Print & Surface — Printmaking (stamps, styrofoam, monoprint), T-shirt design
- Sculpture & Construction — Sculpture, clay works, mixed media, collage, weaving
- Paper Arts — Paper mache, paper cut-outs & 3D paper sculpture, 2D/3D origami, papermaking, paper recycling, bookbinding
- Motion & Structure — Mobiles, moving paper structures
Students develop hands-on skills, creative confidence, and a strong understanding of artistic process in a supportive, inspiring environment. Currently offered as after-school enrichment, with in-school residencies available by inquiry.
Aligned with NY State Arts Learning Standards (Creating & Participating, Materials & Resources, Cultural Dimensions) and the NYC DOE Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts (Art Making, Making Connections).
